Herbert William Tirrell & Edith Butler

were married on 26th December 1920 at the Parish Church, Ravenfield, Yorkshire.

Herbert William Tirrell

was born on 13th April 1894 in Foundry Lane, Ampthill, Bedfordshire

Edith Butler

was born on 8th July 1900 at Hill Side, Newmillerdam, Sandal, Wakefield, Yorkshire.

Herbert's parents were Joseph George Tirrell and Esther Spencer.

Whilst Herbert was still a child, the family moved to Yorkshire. This was probably because his father Joseph worked on the railways and had to move because of his work. There was very little migration before the invention of the steam train.

Herbert was a colliery worker. He died on 6th April 1976 in Wickersley.

Edith's parents were Charles Henry Butler and Everill Stacey.

Edith was tragically killed at their home on 26th September 1925 when her apron caught fire as she was dusting the mantlepiece. newspaper cutting

Herbert and Edith's daughter Kathleen was born on 3rd March 1922.

Herbert married Evelyn Davies on 3rd December 1927. This is their wedding photograph with his daughter Kathleen aged 5 years.

Herbert and Evelyn have two children, Joan was born in 1928 and Walter in 1936.
