Kathleen grew up in the quiet village of Wickersley in the West Riding of Yorkshire. She left home against her father's wishes, at the start World War ll, to join the Military Police. This gave her the opportunity to travel all around the country, which she did not think she would otherwise have been able to do. She found her work during the war very interesting and whilst stationed in Liverpool she met and married William Cox. They have two children, Sheila was born in 1946 and Brian in 1949.
